Ingredients (6)

1 1/4 cups warm waterwater
1 package active dry yeastyeast
2 tablespoons soft shorteningshortening
2 teaspoons saltsalt
2 tablespoons sugarsugar
3 cups flourflour

Instructions (8 steps)

01Using a large mixer bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
02Add shortening, salt, sugar and half the flour.
03Beat 2 minutes at medium speed.
04Add remaining flour and blend until smooth.
05Scrape batter off sides of bowl and cover with a cloth.
06Rise in warm place for 30 minutes, then beat 25 strokes by hand and spread evenly in a greased loaf pan.
07Smooth top with floured hand and let rise again until 1/4" from top of pan (about 40 minutes).
