1 cup brown sugarbrown-sugar
3/4 cup shorteningshortening
1/4 cup molassesmolasses
1 eggegg
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flourflour
2 teaspoons baking sodabaking-soda
1 teaspoon ground gingerginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamoncinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground clovesclove
1/2 teaspoon saltsalt

Instructions (6 steps)

01In a mixing bowl, cream first 4 ingredients until fluffy.
02Sift together the 6 dry ingredients and stir into molasses mixture.
03Form dough into small balls (1 inch diameter).
04Roll balls in granulated sugar.
05Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes.
