2 cups cornmealcornmeal
3/4 cup all-purpose flourflour
2 teaspoons saltsalt
1 tablespoon sugarsugar
1 egg, beatenegg
boiling waterwater
oil (for frying, 1/4 to 1/2 cup)oil

Instructions (5 steps)

01Mix together the cornmeal, flour, salt and sugar.
02Stir in the egg.
03Slowly add enough boiling water until you have a thick batter that you can form into patties.
04Form into patties and fry in hot oil in a heavy skillet until golden brown on both sides.
05Serve immediately.
