Oven-Baked BBQ Baby Back Ribs With Homemade Sauce Recipe
4.9(34)
Baking ribs in the oven offers a cleaner, less hands-on alternative to grilling or smoking but infuses the ribs with flavor and tenderizes them just the same.
Rub the ribs with vegetable oil on a foil-lined baking tray.
04Make the spice rub by combining 2 teaspoons salt, 2 teaspoons paprika, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon cumin, and 2 tablespoons brown sugar.
05Rub the spice mix onto both sides of the ribs.
06Wrap the ribs in foil, then bake on the middle rack for 2 hours.
07While the ribs bake, make the BBQ sauce: In a saucepan, combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, molasses, ½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon black pepper, 2 teaspoons paprika, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and honey.
08Cook the BBQ sauce on medium heat for 20 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning.
09After the ribs have cooked for 2 hours (they should be tender and easily fall off the bone), remove from the oven, unfold the foil, and brush the top side of the ribs with the BBQ sauce using a pastry brush.
10Return to the oven uncovered and bake for 10 more minutes.
11Remove from the oven, flip the ribs, and brush the other sides with the BBQ sauce.
