2 tablespoons olive oilolive-oil
1 cup onion, dicedonion
8 garlic cloves, mincedgarlic
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoestomato
1 (6 ounce) can tomato pastetomato-paste
2 teaspoons sugarsugar
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano or 3/4 teaspoon ground oreganooregano
2 teaspoons saltsalt
1 teaspoon dried basilbasil
1 bay leafbay-leaf
1/8 teaspoon pepperpepper

Instructions (3 steps)

01In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil on medium heat. Add onion and garlic and saute until just soft, not browning.
02Add the remaining ingredients and simmer 30 minutes, or until sauce is desired consistency.
03Use a stick blender or food processor if you prefer a smooth consistency.
